Old Cottage
The Old Cottage is a typical mid 17th century building, with porches opposite (front and rear) at the foot of Coniston Water in the unspoilt Crake valley of the Lake District. It sleeps 8 people in two double and two bunk-bed rooms. There is one bathroom with shower and a separate downstairs toilet.

The accommodation is basic, there is no TV, no dishwasher and few mod-cons. It is, however, quaint and cosy with an aga, an open fire and a piano! Perfect for reviving quality family-time and practising the almost forgotten art of conversation. (There is an old analogue TV in the cupboard in the back bedroom with a scart socket, which can be used for connecting to games consoles or DVD players if you bring them.)

On entering the old cottage through a stone porch, the first thing that hits you is the beam over the door! The ceilings in the living/dining room are criss-crossed with beams under which you will need to duck even if you are only of an average height.

The living/ dining room is large, yet homely and the brick fireplace surrounding the open fire is the focal point of the room. The dining table in the window overlooks the the lawn area and beyond this, the lake.

There is plenty of comfy seating in addition to the dining room table and chairs. The dining room window also boasts a window seat.

The kitchen has been refitted in 2009. It has both a coal fired Aga and an electric cooker (for the less adventurous) There is a back kitchen complete with sink, washing machine and plenty of room for hanging up wet anoraks and soggy children. There is a WC affectionately named 'Gibraltar' as it was originally built on a rock although modernisation has long since removed the protruding rock face.

Upstairs there is a good sized bathroom complete with shower over the large cast iron bath. There are two twin rooms, both with bunk beds, and two rooms both with a double bed.

Electricity is metered, with a meter taking £1 coins and there is a payphone on a shared line with Lake Cottage.
